Georgie was born in Clark, November 29, 1921 where she attended elementary and Jr. High School. At age 17, while working at a hotel in Watertown, she met and married A. Dale Kent, an employee with Rogers Dairy. Later, with three sons, Dale, Terry and Don, they moved to Clark and purchased a dairy business. Daughter, Jill, was born in Clark. They also purchased and operated a bakery/café business.
In 1966 her husband, Dale, was killed in a boating accident on Lake Kampeska. At age 47 Georgie sold the business and home.
She started a new life: employed at Northeastern Mental Health Center in Redfield; the SD State Capitol in Pierre; a Safeway Grocery Bakery in northern CA. She met and married John Foott, a retired veteran and employee of the San Francisco Chronicle. They settled near son, Don Kent, and daughter, Jill Hilkemier, in Toledo, WA and actively pursued salmon fishing.
On a visit with son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Dorie Kent and family, in Jensen Beach, FL where Dale was the pastor of the United Church of Christ, they decided this was the place to spend the rest of their lives. They loved the beach for fishing, salt air breezes, sunshine, reading and walking. Georgie pursued employment with a Publix Market Bakery and home health care for Martin Memorial Health Systems. Her husband, John Foott, died in 2004. In 2015 Georgie became blind, Son, Terry, now retired from Southwest airlines, living in Stuart, FL, provided assistance. Dale and Dorie had retired and moved to New Smyrna Beach near their three daughters and four grandchildren. Family relocated Georgie to Spruce Creek Assisted Living in Port Orange, FL because of her blindness and deteriorating health.
Upon her death family and friends gathered at the ocean beach to celebrate her life and spirit, the legacy of strength, perseverance, independence, wit, positive thinking, values and faith. They read her favorite scripture passages including Micah 6:8: "What does God require of us? "...to act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly with God."
