George P. Holmes, age 67, Clark, died peacefully in the Golden Living Center at Clark on Saturday night, November 19, 2016 after a brief courageous battle of cancer. A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, November 25, 2016 from 5-8PM at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 10:30 AM in the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Clark with The Reverend Mindy Ehrke officiating. The organist will be Dorothy Fuller. Keith Zobel will serve as the urn bearer, because Keith always said, "He had to carry George all the time", and when George was making these arrangements for his service, he said tell Keith, "well buddy, here's your chance!" The staff at Golden Living Center, The Clark Ambulance Squad, and the Clark Fire Department should consider themselves as honorary casketbearers. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark.
He was born on March 18, 1949 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of William J. and Louise "Lucy" (Allen) Holmes. George attended school in Philadelphia and graduated from the Cardinal Dougherty High School in 1967. George served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970.
In 1970 he was united in marriage to Christine Cooper from New York. To this union three children were born, William, George, and Laura. The marriage later ended in divorce.
On June 4, 1983 he was united in marriage to Vickie Schmidt. The couple had two children, Anthony Dialo "Tony" and Lezlie Laura.
When he moved to Clark he worked for Olson Motors for 14 years, and then in 1992 George worked at the Clark Care Center, later becoming the Golden Living Center, as the Mechanical Engineer, as he would say, Custodian, fix whatever guy until retiring in 2009.
In the community he assisted for many years as an EMT on the Clark County Ambulance Squad, and secretary for the Clark Fire Department. In 1984 he joined the Clark County Riders (CCR) and was a member of the club until 2010, known as "Doc". He enjoyed bowling, golfing and pulling practical jokes on anyone! Saturday mornings was a special time for him too, having coffee and breakfast with his friend Keith.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a daughter, Laura in July 11, 1983, who he was especially really looking forward to see again, a brother William Holmes, a sister, Diana Holmes, nephew, John Kittleson, and a brother-in-law, Paul Kittleson.
Survivors include the love of his life for the past 33 years, Vickie of Clark, sons William and George (Doni) Holmes all of Watertown, Tony D. Holmes of Clark and a daughter, Lezlie Holmes (Chad Almond) of Huron. He also leaves 4 grandchildren, Correana, Caitlyn, Jackson, and Adison, a sister, Louise Kittleson of Clark and a sister-in-law, Maureen Holmes of Philadelphia.
