He was born George Melvin Hanson on December 14, 1921 on a farm northwest of Clark, the son of Sigurd and Christine (Kloster) Hanson. George was schooled at the Round Lake School through the eighth grade. Following his schooling he worked on the family farm. On June 8, 1944 he was united in marriage to Alice Marie Nordhus at the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Clark. The couple lived and farmed northwest of Clark until her death in December of 1969. George was then united in marriage to J. Elaine Barkema on June 19, 1970. The couple made their home in Clark. After moving into town, George would make his daily trips to the farm and on at least two days a week he would take the pick-up and the trailer to the sale barn in Watertown, not caring so much about the sale as he did about the visiting with friends. As time and the aging process continued, the couple moved into the Fay Wookey Memorial Assisted Living Center in July of 2005. Elaine passed away on May 29, 2009 and George became a resident of the Golden Living Center in that year as well. George was baptized in the Crocker Lutheran Church and was a member of the Clark Center Lutheran Church near Clark until it closed a few years ago. Besides his love of going to the sale barn, he also was a caretaker of the land, thoroughly enjoying farming. He also liked to attend auction sales and get in on a box of bargains! Preceding him in death were his parents, wives, Alice and J. Elaine, and siblings, Bernard, Alfred, Helen and Evelyn and infant twin brothers. Grateful for having shared in his life are his sons, Ray(Rosella)Hanson of Clark and Bruce (Jeannie) Hanson of Spearfish,a step-daughter, Jeannie (Mark) Lewis of Fisher, MN, grandchildren, Erika (George) Thompson, Jeramiah (Tracey) Johnson, Catherine Parrin, Michael & Brent Hanson, Matthew, JessAnne (fiancé Andrew Keller) and Trisha Lewis; 9 great grandchildren, Darin, Sydney, Jordyn, George, Ethan, Tyreque, Tanner, Madeline and Libby. He also leaves siblings Roy Hanson of Wilmington, DE, Lee (Helen) Hanson of Minnetonka, MN and Arlene (Bill) Bird of Toronto, SD.
