Genevieve E. Stockwell, or "Gen" as most people knew her, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday morning, May 12, 2017 in Longmont, CO, she was a former Clark, SD resident.
A graveside ceremony and burial at St. Boniface Cemetery in Clark will be held on Monday, May 22, 2017 at 10:30 AM.
She was born on September 30, 1926, to Earl and Delia (Hallinan) Geise. She was raised on a farm and graduated from high school in Clark, South Dakota.
Following high school, Gen joined the workforce and moved to Washington, DC. She married Roy Stockwell in July 1948 and raised five children. While raising her family, she remained involved in her community. She was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha chapter of Delta Phi sorority, serving a term as president, and volunteered for the Longmont Mental Health Center. She also became an accomplished seamstress, producing clothing for her children and sharing her skills with others. In addition, she enjoyed gardening, Sunday drives in the mountains, and playing bridge with her neighbors.
After her children were grown, Gen reentered the workforce as a purchasing agent for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. She and Roy divorced in 1981, and Gen continued to work until she retired in 1992. In 1985, Gen bought a local business, Modern Hairstyling Salon, which she owned until 2013. In her spare time, she liked to read, participate in discussions of current events at the Longmont Senior Center, and spend time each summer in her home town.
Gen was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Vince Geise, Valeria Fleischhacker, Emil "Tuffy" Geise, Arvy Carr and her husband Jack, Keith Geise, and Regina Hanson; and her oldest daughter, Janis Stockwell.
She is survived by her daughters, Peggy Schick, Julie Stockwell, and Linda (Jeff) Hill, and her son Roy "Skip" (Dawn) Stockwell, five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, as well as her pet family, Whimsey and Domino, and family friends.
A memorial service was held on Tuesday, May 16, at 10:00 a.m. at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
