Gene Clifford Bell, age 77, Doland, died late Thursday night, April 5, 2007 in the Redfield Community Hospital after a long illness due to cancer.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2007 at 2PM in the First Presbyterian Church in Raymond with Pastor Donna Nickels officiating. The pianist will be Jordan Krogman.  Calvin Krogman will sing "In the Garden" and a duet of Calvin Krogman and Alese Giles will sing "When I Get To Where I'm Going".  The congregation will sing "Because He Lives" and "Jesus is Calling".  A luncheon and a time of fellowship will follow the memorial services at the American Legion Building in Raymond. Burial with military rites will be at 4PM in the Doland Cemetery.

He was born on July 6, 1929 at Doland, the son of Clifford and Ruth (Pendexter) Bell. He was raised on a farm south of Raymond where he attended grade school at Logan School. Later the family moved east of Doland and he attended Doland High School graduating in 1947. In November of 1951 he entered the United States Marine Corp. and served during the Korean War being honorably discharged in November of 1953.

On February 12, 1955 he was united in marriage to Betty Lou Petersen at Doland. The couple moved to Denver where he worked at Hebner Construction. In 1960 they returned to the farm east of Doland. After selling the farm in 1966, they moved into Doland where he worked at the Cenex for the next 28 years, retiring in 1994.

Some of the community organizations he was involved in was being a member of the American Legion, the Doland Volunteer Fire Department,the Doland School Board and was a member of the church board and had taught SUnday School.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors include his wife Betty of Doland, children Brian Bell and wife Mary Ann of Fredricksburg, VA, Stuart Bell of Doland,SD and Marcie Glanzer and husband Dick of Carpenter; 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Don Bell and wife Vernyce of St. Croix, WI and Larry Bell and wife Sherry of Friendswood, TX and a sister, Anna Lou Miles and husband Jerome of Roundhill, VA. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation.

Funeral arrangements are with the Furness Funeral Home at Clark.
