Gayle Brekke

Gayle Marie Brekke, age 75, of Elk City, OK passed away August 4, 2023 at the Elk City Nursing and Rehabilitation Home in Elk City, OK.

A visitation will be held at the Furness Funeral Home of Clark, SD on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at 1:00 PM with a funeral service to follow at the Furness Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM with Pastor Fawn Lamb officiating. A burial will follow the funeral service at the Rose Hill Cemetery of Clark, SD.

Gayle was born August 25, 1947 to Harland and Viola Fern (Pierson) Mudgett of Henry, SD.  After graduating from school in Henry, she moved to Watertown, SD for a while, then to Coeur d'Alene, ID. for a short time and then back to Watertown where she worked at Memorial Hospital.

She married Wayne Brekke of Watertown and they moved to Cecil, WI.  They then moved to San Diego, CA when Wayne went back into the Navy.  She worked for several companies as a secretary.

In 2006, Wayne and Gayle moved to Elk City, OK.  She volunteered at the local Food Pantry, Help, Inc.  After several years she moved to Yukon, OK to be close to Jodi.  She moved to Elk City Nursing Home in July 2023.

Gayle was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, Delores Mudgett, 1 daughter, Jodi Lyn Brushwood, and several brothers-in-law.

Gayle is survived by her ex-husband Wayne (Rita), 1 Daughter - Trisha (Charlie) Rogerson of Chesapeake, VA., 3 grandchildren - Sassy Brushwood of Yukon, OK, Phillip and Gillian Rogerson of Chesapeake, VA., 8 sisters- Arlene Aslesen of Florence, Verla Berner of Watertown, Beryl McClung of Florence, Glenda (Dean) Woods of Florence, Arlys (Jack) Kayes of Florence, Sharyl Graves of Raymond, DiAnn Cooper of Sioux Falls, and Denise (David) Brewer of Havre, MT.  4 Brothers – Larry (Sharon) of Monroe, LA, Terry (Renae) of Clark, Randall (Candy) of Humbolt, IA. and Marlin (Jan) of Sioux Falls, SD.
