Freddie John Gruber, age 66, Sargent, Nebraska, died late Thursday night, October 7, 2004, in a residence on Meadow Lake Drive near Watertown where he had been visiting. No services are being planned locally. A Memorial gathering will be held on Friday, October 15, 2004 at the Old River Bridge in Sargent. In case of inclement weather, please meet at Fred's home.. He was born on October 7, 1938 in Walworth, Nebraska, the son of Paul and Hazel (Ohmberger) Gruber. He attended school in Sargent and after his schooling he entered the U.S. Army. He served his country for 4 years with some of that time being spent in Germany. After his discharge he learned to operate heavy equipment at an early age and thus began his career working construction. He moved to the Denver, CO area and became a member of the Operating Engineers Local #9. In August of 1961 he was united in marriage to Janice Ann Bachman, formerly of Clark. To this union 3 children were born, DeAnn, David & Freddie Michael. He later was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Broeren. Three years ago he moved back to Sargent. Some of his hobbies included hunting, fishing, traveling, collecting guns and just "moseying around". Survivors include his daughter, DeAnn and Scott Schaefer of Bryant, Mother, Hazel Gruber of Sargent, a sister, Jeanette and Paul Kemry of Sargent, a Step-Son, Ted Broeren of Thornton, CO, a Sister-in-Law, Judy Gruber of Sargent, 5 grandchildren, Adam, Crystal, Dustin, Ja'Mae and Jeremy and a great-granddaughter, Destiny. Preceding him in death was his Father, 2 sons, Freddie Michael and David John, a brother, Robert Gruber and a sister, Joyce Gruber. There will be no visitation. The Furness Funeral Home of Clark is handling the arrangements.
