Frances Lenore Smith

Frances Lenore Smith, 95, of Clark, SD passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Prairie Lakes Healthcare System in Watertown, SD. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2016 at United Methodist Church, Clark, SD. There will be a visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, June 19, 2016 at Furness Funeral Home. Furness Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

Frances Lenore Hallberg was born August 14, 1920 in Darlington Township in Clark County. She was the daughter of Walter and Florence (Day) Hallberg. Frances attended rural schools in Darlington and Merton Townships, attended Clark High School and graduated in 1938. Frances attended Northern Teacher's College in Aberdeen for one year and taught for 4 years in rural schools in Clark County.

Frances was married to Wilmer Smith on September 19th, 1943. They lived on a farm in Merton Township for 32 years. Together they raised three sons, DuWayne, Richard, and Merlin. They moved to Clark in October of 1979. They were blessed to celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1993. Wilmer passed away on October 23, 1995.

Frances had a strong faith and was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Clark. She belonged to the Senior Citizens and helped with the 60 Plus Dining Program. Family was very important to Frances. She loved to cook and bake for family and friends. She enjoyed helping others and was always willing to help where she was needed.

She is survived by two sons, DuWayne (Joyce) Smith of Edgewood, New Mexico and Merlin (Brenda) Smith of Sioux Falls; eight grandchildren, Dana Smith (Scott Neiderbrach), Teresa (Jeff) Chivers, Canon Smith, Travis (Judy) Smith, Greg (Tina) Schuricht, Scott Schuricht, Adam (Heather) Smith, and Derek Smith; nine great-grandchildren, Jerry Page, Taylor Page, Kobie Chivers, Miranda Smith, Abby Smith, Reed Smith, Annika Smith, Rory Schuricht, and Whitney Schuricht; one great-great-grandchild, Cayman Page; one sister, Norma Bailey; sisters-in-law, Muriel Larson and Mavis Hawkyard; one brother-in-law, Allen Smith and a host of other relatives.
