Floyd A. Maas, age 89, Crocker, died on Thursday evening, September 5, 2013 in a Watertown hospital from injuries received in a motor vehicle accident earlier in the evening near Bradley, SD. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 9, 2013 from 5-7 PM with at 6:45 PM prayer service all in the Furness Funeral Home Chapel at Clark. Visitation will continue after 9AM at the Church in Crocker on Tuesday. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at 10:30 AM in the Crocker Lutheran Church at Crocker. Minister Marion Grimes will officiate. Burial will follow in the St. Thomas Cemetery near Crocker. Music will be provided by Marvine Obermeier, Fred Obermeier, David & Carol Finstad and Roger Nordhus. Honorary Casketbearers will be Floyd Flatten, Lawrence Stromsness, Dale Anderson, Bill Wolf, Stub Loterbauer, Harris Dean, Keith Blashill, Virgil Stern & Austin Schiley. The active casketbearers will be Chad & Brad Haight, Melissa Holmlund, Garrett, Mike & Tyler Maas, Jennifer Waege, Tasha Satter and Jeff Koehn. He was born Floyd August Maas on March 23, 1924 at Hebron, ND, the son of John and Kate (Metzger) Maas. Floyd attended country grade school in North Dakota. He came to Clark County at an early age to help on a family farm and later met his future wife, Julia Rose Lederman. They were married on August 25, 1946 at Crocker, recently celebrating 67 years of marriage. The couple lived and farmed near Crocker. In addition to farming, he also hauled hay. He enjoyed training and riding horses, fishing, bowling, and spending time at the casino. Floyd served his country honorable during World War II, and had the occasion to go on a South Dakota Honor Flight, a trip he thoroughly enjoyed. He was a member of the Bradley American Legion and also the Crocker Lutheran Church. Preceding him in death were his parents, all of his siblings, Art, Albert, Christ, Lloyd, Willard and Sophie. Survivors include his wife Julia of Crocker, children, Jeannie Maas and friend James Taylor of Huron, John (Karyl) Maas of Crocker, Vivian Koehn and friend Mike Lowe of Watertown and Floyd James (Vikki) Maas of Florence, 9 grandchildren, Chad & Brad Haight, Melissa Holmlund, Garett (Heidi) Maas, Mike (Kris) Maas, Jennifer Waege, Tyler (Hanna) Maas, Tasha (Chris) Satter and Jeff Koehn and a sister-in-law, Delores Maas of Spokane, WA.
