She was born Flossie Grimm at Rockham, SD, the daughter of Earnest "Pete" and Elsie (Carl) Grimm. Flossie was the second oldest, one of seven children born to Pete and Elsie. The family moved to Perkins, OK in 1935 where Earnest worked in the oil fields. The family returned to South Dakota in June of 1943 to a farm in Washington Township, Clark County. At that time they had five children, William, Flossie, Virgil, Elsie and Earnest LeRoy. Their next child Robert was born that August and then in 1945 they moved to a farm in Collins Township and in 1950, Darwin was born. In 1951 the couple moved to Section 26 of Collins Township. Flossie was schooled in Oklahoma and then when living near Willow Lake, finished her schooling there, graduating from WLHS in 1947. Following high school she attended General Beadle State Normal School at Madison, obtaining her teaching certificate then then she taught in a one room school house near Willow Lake for several years. On November 11, 1955 she was united in marriage to John Disrud and after their marriage they moved to Anaheim, CA briefly. In 1957 the family moved back to a farm near Willow Lake where they engaged in farming until his death on March 3, 1992. Flossie has remained on the farm since his death. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She will long be remembered for her incredible work ethic, never one to sit still when something is needed to be done. She worked at the Clara Nuttbrock's store and the Willow Lake Locker. Later in life she was employed at the Willow Lake School as a janitor, the French fry plant at Clark, Heath's Greenhouse at Bancroft, had served as clerk for the Collins Township and had maintained the Collins Cemetery as sexton and groundskeeper for over 30 years. She enjoyed farm life, collecting pink depression glassware, sewing, quilting, gardening and being outdoors. Flossie was known for her poultry processing, including ducks, geese, turkeys and pheasants, a job she did for over 42 years. She also was a great marksman both with the rifle and shotgun, and when the ammo ran out; she was still dangerous to varmints! Preceding her in death were her parents, Earnest (1907-1978) & Elsie (Carl) Grimm (1905-1985), husband John Disrud (1926-1992), brothers, William "Bill" Grimm (1927-1985) and Earnest Grimm (1938-2004) and a brother-in-law, Albert "Bud" Houghton (1927-2011). Grateful for having shared in her life are her children, Darrell Disrud of rural Willow Lake and Denise (Greg) Cooper of Duluth, MN, siblings, Virgil (Dorothy Balough) Grimm of Madison, SD, Elsie (Grimm) Houghton of Willow Lake, Robert (Marjorie) Grimm of McCook, NE and Darwin (Veloy Gustafson) Grimm of Estherville, IA and a sister-in-law, Betty (Froke) Grimm of Willow Lake.
