Florence L Waxdahl

Florence L. Waxdahl, age 103, Watertown, died in the Jenkins Living Center at Watertown early Wednesday afternoon, October 6, 2010. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 11, 2010 at 1PM in the Furness Funeral Home Chapel at Clark with the Reverend Robin Schaunaman officating. The pianist will be Dorothy Fuller with Greg Furness as the soloist. The honorary casketbearers will be the staff of Jenkins Living Center. Active casketbearers will be Heath Isler, Larry Tupper, Dale Fink, Dennis, Jim and Bobby Johnson. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark. Visitation will begin at 9AM on Monday morning in the funeral home chapel and continue up until service time. She was born, Florence Lovilla Macer at Manchester, IA, the daughter of William A. and Ida (Caster) Maser. The family moved to the Doland community in 1911 where she attended country school. In 1929 she was united in marriage to Melvin Urdahl and to this union five children were born: Willis, Robert, Marlene, Donald and Lois. The couple later divorced and she married Thomas Waxdahl in 1949. To this union a son, Richard T. was born. While living in Clark, she worked at a caf and then after the Clark Nursing Home opened, she was employed there. Some of her hobbies included tatting, sewing and playing cards. While living on the farm she spent countless hours in the garden and canning. At her 100th birthday she contributed her longevity to hard work and a strong faith, something that gave her positive qualities and outstanding character. Grateful for having shared in her life are her children, Willis (JoAnn) Urdahl of Watertown, Marlene (Bob) Johnson of Clark, Lois Fink of Watertown and Richard T. Waxdahl of Vista, CA. Florence also leaves 19 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great grandchildren, a daughter-in-law, Joanne Urdahl of Placerville, CA and sisters-ini-law, Mary Waxdahl of Clark and Eunice Lien of Payson, AZ. Preceding her in death was her husband Thomas, first husband Melvin, sons, Robert and Donald, grandson, Terry Joe Urdahl and siblings, Charles, Jerry and Louis Macer, Ruby Stebbins, Ruth Schaffer and Eunice Reidburn.
