Evelyn Lucille Whirledge, age 91, of Bryant, SD, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Society in DeSmet, SD.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 22, 2024, at 2 PM at Grace Lutheran Church of Willow Lake, SD. Pastor Colin Beveridge will officiate. A lunch and time of fellowship will follow in the church fellowship area. Burial will be held at a later date at Our Redeemer Lutheran Cemetery of rural Bryant. The service will be livestreamed on the Furness Funeral Home facebook page.
She was born in rural Lennox, SD, on October 14, 1933, to Tebbo and Abbie Knock. Evelyn graduated from Lennox High School. She worked various jobs where she met Harold.
On March 2nd, 1956, Harold and Evelyn were joined in marriage in Lennox. They then moved to Colorado Springs, CO, where Harold did his basic training for six months. They then returned home where Harold and Evelyn farmed south of Willow Lake.
Evelyn's true passion was cooking and sewing. If you ever showed up at meal time, she always had enough food for all the extra people, no matter how many there were. She also enjoyed trips to Arizona in the winter where she spent time with dear friends. She also enjoyed playing cards, putting together puzzles, and until the very end, loved doing diamond art.
Evelyn and Harold moved to Stoneybrook Assisted Living in Brookings in July 2020. They resided there until July of 2024. Evelyn moved to Parkview Assisted Living in Bryant in August of 2024, where she truly felt she was at home.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Donna Whirledge of Brookings and Debra (Dallas) Laube of Bryant, granddaughter Elizabeth Moulton of Willow Lake, grandson Cutler Laube of Bryant, brothers-in-law Roger Whirledge of Willow Lake and Larry (JoAnn) Whirledge of Osceola, special nieces Kristi (Kevin) Guerdet of Willow Lake and Laurna (Rick) Gustafson of Colorado Springs, CO, as well as many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tebbo and Abbie Knock, her husband, Harold, her brother, Art Knock, and sisters, Ardell Timmerman and Marlys DeVries.
The family has entrusted Furness Funeral Home of Clark to assist with the arrangements.
