Evelyn Elaine Obermeier was born on October 1, 1923 in the Crocker Hills near Crocker, SD, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Bjerke) Obermeier.  Evelyn attended grade school at Crocker then in 1942 graduated from Bradley High School.

After graduation from high school, Evelyn moved to San Francisco area and stayed with an older brother, Clayton and his wife Betty.  She worked as a babysitter and did housework for area residents.  She then worked as a streetcar motorman and as a welder in the Richmond Ship Yards.  This is where she met her future husband.

On April 5, 1945 she was united in marriage to Jimmie Britton of Grubbs, Arkansas.  They were married in Harrisburg, Arkansas.  The couple lived in Grubbs until his death on June 8, 1990.  Evelyn moved to Clark in 1992 where she has lived since, residing at the Garden Grove Apartments, then to the Roetell Senior Living Center until moving into the Jenkins Living Center at Watertown this past January.

She was a confirmed member of the Crocker Lutheran Church, and was saved and baptized in the First Baptist Church of Grubbs in March of 1971.  She served as a Sunday School Teacher, a Training Union Leader, and a Girls Auxiliary Leader at Grubbs for many years.  Evelyn was a charter member of the First Baptist Church at Clark. In September of this year, with the suggestion and work of niece Pam Van Gilder, Evelyn received a certificate from the American Rosie the Riveter Association for National Active Membership in commemoration of distinguished service as a working woman of World War II.  Evelyn was extremely proud of this accomplishment.

Evelyn enjoyed crocheting, making many afghans for relatives and friends, and working crossword puzzles.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Jimmie, siblings, Henry W. "Son", Clayton, Walter (Mary Lou), William (Jeanne), and Clifford Obermeier.

Survivors include a brother, Carl "Fritz" (Marvine) Obermeier, sisters-in-law, Betty Obermeier, and Jean Obermeier and numerous nieces and nephews.
