Evelyn R. (Schulz) Finstad, age 89 of the Bradley/Crocker communities, the widow of Ralph Schulz and Lester Finstad, died early Wedneday morning, December 6, 2006 in a Clark care center. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2006 at 2PM in the Crocker Lutheran Church at Crocker with Minister Marion Grimes officiating. Burial will follow in the Prairie Hill Cemetery at Bradley. Music will be presented by Marvine Obermeier and Wendy Christman. Casketbearers will be Jay, Joey, Barry and Bill Schulz, Brad Finstad and Casey Flatten. Following the burial, lunch will be served in the Bradley Community Center by the Crocker Lutheran WELCA. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-7 PM at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and after noon at the Church on Saturday. She was born in Jackson County, Roundlake Township, Minnesota on June 23, 1917, the daughter of August and Leona (Bass) Johnson. She attended school in Minnesota. On January 20, 1935, she was united in marriage to Ralph Schulz at Lakefield, MN. The couple farmed near Lakefield until 1949 when they moved to a farm southeast of Conde. In 1977 they moved into Crocker. Mr. Schulz died in 1980. She continued living in Crocker until her marriage to Lester Finstad in 1983. The couple moved to a farm near Bradley where they lived until his death in 1992. She then returned to a home in Crocker where she lived until moving to an assisted living facility in Florence in 2003. She was a longtime member of the Crocker Lutheran Church and its womens groups. Some of her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, reading, putting together puzzles, playing cards and visiting. Besides the love of family, another passion of hers was birdwatching. In early years she thoroughly enjoyed dancing. Grateful for having shared in her life are her children, Jeanette Loterbauer and husband Glen of Webster, Stanley Schulz of Conde and Judy Bailey and husband Brad of Salem; a daughter-in-law, Patricia (Schulz) Schiley and husband Austin of Lily, a step-son, David Finstad and wife Carol and a step-daughter, Donna Flatten and husband Landis all of Bradley; 9 grandchildren, Jay, Joey, Barry & Bill Schulz, Shelley Janke, Annette Bowen, Bonnie Headley, Angelia Frederick and Tammy Robbins, 10 step-grandchildren, Mark, Scott and Brad Finstad, Lisa Flora, Tracy Moody, Bobbi Jo Schmidt, Casey and Corey Flatten, Josie Michalski and Kelly Spielman; 22 great-grandchildren, 16 step great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; She also leaves a half-brother, Warren Johnson and wife Ruby of Worthington, MN.
