Ernest Lien, age 90, Marshall, MI, formerly of the Bradley/Lily area, died in the VA Hospital at Ann Arbor, MI on Tuesday, April 18, 2017
following a short illness.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 11AM-1PM at the Bradley Community Center with a prayer service at 1PM. Following the prayer services, the burial with full military honors provided by the Bradley Larry F. Hartman American Legion Post #108 and the Army National Honor Guard will be held in the Our Saviors West Lutheran Cemetery at Lily.
Following the committal, all are invited to return to the Bradley Community Center for a lunch and a time of fellowship.
Ernest was born on April 17, 1927 in Lily, South Dakota to Bertin and Clara (Peterson) Lien. He attended country schools in South Dakota. He served in the US Army during the Korea Conflict. On June 25, 1951 he married Leona L. Springer in Belton, Texas.
Ernest worked for the Corning Glass for 25 years, and after the plant closed, he worked for Bostick in Marshall until he retired in 1992. He was a member of the Lutheran Church, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was an avid mechanic and would fix several small engines for people who needed the help. Ernest enjoyed hunting, fishing, and making yearly trips to South Dakota to visit family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Leona of Marshall; son Gary of Marshall; grandchildren Ryan and Tyler; daughter-in-law Patty (late Alan) Lien of Chamberlain, SD; grandchildren Jennifer and James; and a sister Doreen Christensen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons Alan in 2016 and Dale in infancy; brothers, Milton, Kermit, and Ralph; and sisters, Bernice Bock, Dela Montana, and Leona Fitchner
