Emogene Peterson, age 88, rural Naples, the widow of Leslie Peterson, died in the Prairie Lakes Hospital at Watertown on Wednesday afternoon, July 7, 2010 after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 12, 2010 at 2PM in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church at Vienna with the Reverend Dave Larson officiating. Burial will follow in the Naples Lutheran Cemetery. Dorothy Fuller will be the organist with special music by the Bethlehem Lutheran Quartet. The casketbearers will be Kyle & Doug Peterson, Jason and Joshua Schickedanz, Roy Gjerde and David Siebert. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4-6PM at the Furness Funeral Home in Clark and after 1PM at the Church in Vienna on Monday. She was born on March 26, 1922 at Langford, SD, the daughter of Adolph and Carena (Olson) Eikanas. She attended school at Langford graduating from Langford High School. She went to work in Minneapolis, MN as an elevator attendant at the Lincoln Hotel. On December 21, 1947 she married Leslie Peterson at Langford. The couple lived and farmed near Naples their entire married life. The couple spent winters in Texas for 5 years. Leslie died in 1980. After his death she and her son Dale have continued to live on the farm near Naples. Emogene will long be remembered for being an excellent caregiver, not only to her family members over the many years, but too many neighbors and friends. She thoroughly enjoyed being that caretaker. Her kindness and gentleness were second to none. Some other fond memories that will be with so many folks will be her potato salad, chocolate chip cookies, homemade buns, lefse and always having the coffee pot on with always a treat for anyone who stopped by the house. She also was great at mending clothes, especially for her grandsons. She was a longtime member of the Sons of Norway, the Vienna Senior Citizens, the Bethlehem Church and the WELCA group, the American Legion Auxiliary at Vienna and being a very active participant in the Salvation Army Thrift Store at Watertown. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Leslie, two infant daughter, Karen and Kay, 4 brothers, Jowell, Clarion, Arlan and Ordean Eikanas, and 3 sisters, Vivian Lidel, Lois Stabnow and Marie (Bob) Mueller. Grateful for having shared in her life are her children, Dale of Naples and Connie (Gary) Schickedanz of Watertown, two grandsons, Joshua and Jason Schickedanz both of Sioux Falls, a great-grandson, Tyler Schickedanz of Madison, MN, a sister, Mildred (Arthur) Bethke of Anchorage, Alaska, a brother, Ron (Janice) Eikanas of Mound, MN, two brother-in-laws, Clare Lidel of Siren, WI and Bob Stabnow of Delano, MN and many nieces and nephews.
