Mrs. Emma B. Saboe, age 100, of Watertown, formerly of Willow Lake died on Sunday morning, October 30,2005 in the Jenkins Living Center at Watertown. Mrs. Saboe was the widow of Hilmer Saboe. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2PM in the Grace Lutheran Church at Willow Lake with the Rev. Kris Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Good Hope Lutheran Cemetery north of Willow Lake. Music will be provided by Dorothy Fuller as organist with Leland and Gail Roe singing "How Great Thou Art". The congregation will also sing "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Beautiful Savior" Casketbearers will be Gordon Fuller, Harry Hanson, Arlo Saboe, Michael Prouty, Donald Roe and Marlin Ness. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5-7 PM at the Church in Willow Lake and also 2 hours preceding services at the Church on Thursday. She was born on December 25, 1904, the daughter of Truls T. and Kari (Nelson) Rund, near the New Hope Lutheran Church, near Hayti, South Dakota. She attended grade school in Hamlin County, High school in Thomas for two years and then graduated from Watertown High School in 1924. Following her graduation she stayed on the farm caring for her Mother. She later attended a summer program at Northern Normal ' Teachers College in Aberdeen obtaining her teaching certificate. For a period of 4 years, 2 in Hamlin County and 2 in Clark County, she taught country school. On December 17, 1937 she was united in marriage to Hilmer Saboe at the parsonage of the Lutheran Church in Vienna. The couple lived and farmed north of Willow Lake until moving into town in 1973. Hilmer died in 1973. She was a longtime member of The Good Hope Lutheran Church, north of Willow Lake, the WELCA and had been a Sunday School teacher at the Church. While living in Willow Lake, she was a member of the Willow Lake Senior Citizens. Some of her favorite pastimes included baking, making relief quilts for the Church, crocheting, playing bingo, working crossword puzzles, and flower gardening, especially raising glads. She will long be remembered for making fresh doughnuts, being the 'Doughnut Lady' in Willow Lake. Another favorite way to pass the day away was embroidering, especially on dish towels, in fact completing some 16 sets last year and finishing another set only one month ago, quit an accomplishment for someone nearing 101! Grateful for having shared her life is her daughter Carol Pickering and husband James, a granddaughter, Julie Roe and husband Jeff and 3 great-grandchildren, Haley, Pete and Emma Roe all of Watertown. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Hilmer, brothers Thomas, Helmer, Ingvald, Christ, Gilbert and Eddie Rund, sisters Thilda Danielson and Lillie Roe.
