Elnora J. Hovde, age 95, Clark, the widow of Sigurd Hovde, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday evening, February 26, 2012 at the Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 2PM in the Good Hope Lutheran Church, rural Willow Lake, with The Reverend Keith Garness officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The organist will be Dorothy Fuller with Merlin Hovde as soloist. Honorary casketbearers will be her great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. The active casketbearers will be Larry Steen, Larry, Merlin, Zachary, Taylor and Lane Hovde. Visitation will be held from 4-6 PM on Wednesday at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and after 1PM at the Church on Thursday. She was born Elnora J. Larson, daughter of Elmer and Maggie (Babler) Larson, on January 21, 1917 near Vienna. Elnora attended country school at various locations in the Vienna area. She assisted on the family farm until her marriage to Sigurd Hovde on April 18, 1940 at Clark. The couple lived and farmed their entire married life in Merton Township. Sigurd died tragically in a garbage fire in April of 1987. Elnora remained on the farm for a couple of year and then moved into Clark, living for over 23 years in the Garden Grove apartments. Elnora had worked at Fairfield Foods in Clark for a few years as well. She was a member of the Good Hope Lutheran Church and active in its WELCA group and circles. Elnora had many favorite pastimes which included playing cards and working word puzzles. Besides the love of her family, Elnora spent countless hours embroidering, crocheting, quilting, making afghans, and baking. Her love of baking included making doughnuts, cookies, especially known for her peanut butter, and making lefse. While living on the farm she gardened, canned, even putting up meat and raised many types of poultry. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, siblings, Kenneth & Norman Larson and Eltha (Edwin) Hovde. Grateful for having shared in her life is her son, Kurwin of Vienna, grandchildren, Mike (Cheryl), Scott (Connie) and Brian (Sandy), 8 great-grandchildren, Zachary, Savannah, Maggie, Taylor, Toni, Lane, Spencer and Sam and 2 great-great-grandchildren, William and Alaynah.
