She was born Ellen Angeline Seefeldt on April 26, 1920 in Elrod Township, near Clark the daughter of John M. and Tressa (Holmstrom) Myers. She graduated from Henry High School in 1939 and then attended and graduated from Northern Normal in Aberdeen obtaining her teacher's certificate. Following her education in Aberdeen, Ellen began teaching at country schools in Clark County from 1940-1946. On April 4, 1946 she was united in marriage to Lyle William Seefeldt at the Lutheran parsonage at Clark. The couple lived and farmed for a year near Willow Lake and then moved to a farm in Day Township where they resided until moving into Clark October of 1976. While on the farm, Ellen assisted during potato season while also raising large gardens, both vegetable and flower. Lyle died on May 9, 1999. Ellen has continued making Clark her home, living in her own home until September of 2005 when she moved into the Griffin Apartments and just last June, moving into the Golden Living Center at Clark. In addition to her love of gardening and canning, Ellen also was an excellent baker and a great self-taught cook. During silage season it was not unusual for her to make three cakes in a day and the workers cleaning every last piece up that same day! One could always count on plenty of food at her home, even if you stopped by unannounced. In her later years, one could always find Ellen sitting and doing word-search games, something she thoroughly enjoyed. She was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church at Clark, a former member of the Day Betterment Club and an extension club for many years. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Lyle, son-in-law, DuWayne Heim, siblings, Art (Martha) Frank, Raymond Frank, Arline (Walt) Holiday, Elfreda (Paul) Green, Robert Myers and 3 in infancy. Also preceding her was a brother-in-law, Les Kirkegaard. Grateful for having shared in her life are her children, Darrell (Pat) Seefeldt, Roberta Heim all of Clark and Carol (James) Dykstra of Wolsey, 5 grandchildren, Teresa and Douglas Seefeldt, Bobbi Jo (Michael) Carter, Bryan (Amber) Dykstra and Greg Dykstra and a sister, Doris Kirkegaard of Flandreau, SD, along with several nieces and nephews.
