On November 8, 1959, Frank and Cleo (Gill) Smith welcomed their only daughter, Elizabeth "Beth" Ann Smith to the family in Huron, SD. She joined brothers James and Frank and later, younger brother Daniel. She spent most of her childhood growing up in Clark where she attended Clark School and graduated in 1978. Beth grew up loving animals whether it be the traditional dog or cat or the more unique pet coon, fox or squirrel. She spent many hours taking care of her animals and training them.

In March, 1979, she married Jim Freeburg and they made their home on a farm near Frankfort. To this union, two children, Jesse and Amber were born. Beth enjoyed the farm life helping with farmwork and of course, tending to the animals. The couple later divorced and Beth moved to Doland.

She worked for her mom's business, Cleo's Recreation in Doland for a while but spent most of her life in jobs caring for others, especially kids. Beth truly loved kids, spending some time working at a daycare, many years as a special   education para professional at the Doland School District, and for more than the last ten years, as a Developmental Care Specialist at the South Dakota Developmental Center in Redfield.

Beth was a loyal, loving person who always put others first. She never missed a person's birthday or just keeping in touch with friends and family. She enjoyed camping with family, horseback riding, and being a devoted worker. She truly loved spending time with family and when it was time to come home, you could hear her whistle throughout Doland.

Beth was a long-time member of the St. Michael's Catholic Church of Clark and most recently, the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Doland.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Frank and Cleo Smith and her brother, Frank Smith.

Grateful for having shared Beth's life are her children, Jesse (Becky) Freeburg of Sioux Falls and Amber (Chad) Lindquist of Harrisburg, three grandchildren, Tara Freeburg, Danika and Hudson Lindquist, brothers Jim (Laura) Smith of Hopkins, MN and Dan Smith of Jamestown, ND, nieces and nephews, Dillon, Samantha, Luke, Brianne Smith and Alexis (Simeon) Nelson and great nieces, Charlie and Chloe Nelson. She also leaves behind several other family members and friends.

Arrangements are being handled by the Furness Funeral Home of Clark, SD where there is an online registry at www.furnessfuneralhome.com.
