Eldon Lyle Herker of Akeley Minnesota, formerly of Willow Lake and Bradley, passed away at home Monday, October 13th with his family by his side. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 19, 2014 from 4-6 PM at Grace Lutheran Church at Willow Lake. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 20, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Grace Lutheran Church at Willow Lake with Pastor Keith Garness officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Lutheran Cemetery at Vienna. Eldon was born January 1, 1937 to Vern and Vera Herker in Spink County SD. He grew to adulthood in Spink and Clark Counties of SD. He joined the Army on February 26, 1955. He was honorably discharged June 26, 1957. Eldon met and married Ruby Lois Maifield on September 12, 1958. He was baptized in 1959. During his adulthood he held many forms of employment. He worked as a farm laborer. He also worked at the Willow Lake Sales Barn. He worked at the Bryant hatchery grinding feed and worked for the Clark County Highway Department. The majority of his employment was with the Burlington Northern Railroad. He retired in 1999. During his lifetime he built and sold many homes in the Clark County area. Eldon and his wife Ruby moved to Bradley in 2000. In 2007, they moved to Park Rapids Minnesota. His wife Ruby passed away in 2008 and Eldon went to live with his daughter Brenda Davis near Akeley Minnesota in 2008. Eldon enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, traveling and playing cards. Eldon and Ruby celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with a trip to Germany. They also traveled to most of the 50 states during their marriage. Eldon is survived by his children, Brenda (Robert) Davis of Akeley, Minnesota, Verna (Steve) Lohse of Comstock, Minnesota and Brent Herker of Minot, North Dakota. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Eldon is survived by his sisters, Phyllis Schmidt, Beverly Doine, Eva Frank, Darlene Cathings, and his brothers, Jerry Herker, Ronald Herker, and Tom Herker. Eldon is preceded in death by his wife Ruby, son Jeffrey, parents Vern and Vera Herker. Eldon is also preceded in death by his sisters, Dora Hoffman, Belva Elvik, Alma Herker, June Bethke, brothers, Merlyn Herker, Russell Herker, Teddy Herker, and Dale Herker.
