Edwin "Ed" Clausen, age 96, of Clark, SD, died peacefully with family by his side on Friday, July 26, 2024 at Avantara Clark Nursing Home.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 30, 2024, from 5-7 pm at Furness Funeral Home in Clark and one hour prior to funeral services. The funeral service will be Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at 10:30 am at the Plymouth Congregational Church of Clark with Pastor Fawn Lamb officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery of rural Clark, SD. Ed's service will be live streamed on the Furness Funeral Home Facebook page and may be viewed at the time of service.
Edwin John Clausen was born in Clark, SD on May 21, 1928 to Ernest and Emma (Stanley) Clausen. He was one of 13 children in the family. Ed attended school in Clark and graduated from Clark High School in 1946.
On July 1, 1950 Ed was united in marriage to Beverly Margaret Condit at the Plymouth Congregational Church in Clark. To this union, four children were born: Mary Jo, John, Margaret "Peggy", and Peter.
Ed entered and served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Japan on April 10, 1951. He was honorably discharged on April 9, 1953. During this time, Ed received the Korean Service and United Nations Service Medals.
Ed worked for the US Postal Service. He started out as a part-time mail carrier on the city route in Clark and he eventually attained the position of postmaster. His dedication and efficiency were unmatched!
Ed was active in the Clark community as a volunteer fireman and was a member in the Clark Rotary Club, the Clark Golf Club, the American Legion, and the Plymouth Congregational Church (U.C.C).
Ed excelled in athletics. He played basketball, baseball, and ran track in high school. He was a champion golfer who participated in many Clark City Tournaments.
Ed is survived by his children; Mary Jo (Laurence) Johnson of Pierre, John (Carol) Clausen of Pierre, and Peggy (Don) Lindsay of Sturgis; grandchildren: Heather Redetzke, Robyn Bauer, Chris and Tom Johnson, Allison Petrich, and Katie Farrens; nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his wife Bev, parents, infant son Peter, grandson Jeffrey Lindsay, and his brothers and sisters.
In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be made out to Plymouth Congregational Church, Clark Rotary, or the Clark Area Community Foundation.
