Edith Barton, age 92, Clark, the widow of John Barton, died on Monday afternoon, March 8, 2010 in the Golden Living Center at Clark surrounded by her daughters.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 11AM in the Furness Funeral Home Chapel at Clark with Gregg Stormo officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark. Music will be presented by Sharon Stormo as pianist, playing a piano solo, The Blue Skirt Waltz with Greg Furness as soloist, singing Softly and Tenderly, Jesus is Calling. The congregation will sing, Here I Am Lord, Just As I Am (Ediths confirmation song) and Just a Closer Walk with Thee. The casketbearers will be Patrick, Taylor and Brady Welk and Kurt, Scott and Todd Hubbard. The staff of the Golden Living Center at Clark should consider themselves as honorary casketbearers.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5-7 PM and will resume on Thursday morning at 9AM until service time at the Furness Funeral Home.
Edith Sandvik was born on April 2, 1917 in Day County, South Dakota, near Bristol, the daughter of Lars and Lena (Grove) Sandvik. She attended country school north of Bristol and then attended and graduated from Bristol High School in 1935.
On August 24, 1940 she married John Barton of Bradley at Webster. To this union two daughters, Terry and Trudy were born. The couple farmed in Day County until 1949 when they moved to Woodland Township. In August of 1970 they moved to Clark. After moving into Clark she did some babysitting, worked in area potato fields and also worked for McCain Foods, formerly Fairfield Products and Midwest Foods. Mr. Barton died on January 12, 1994. She continued living in her own home until becoming a resident of the care center in May of 2008.
She was baptized and confirmed by Rev. Distad in the Bergen Lutheran Church near Bristol and currently held her membership in the Crocker Lutheran Church.
She will long be remembered for her love of quilt making which she shared with many and her doughnuts, as expressed by several grandchildren, calling them "Edith Doughnuts!"
Grateful for having shared in her life are her daughters, Terry (Dennis) Hubbard of Dawson, MN and Trudy (Welk) Collins of Clark, a brother, Clarence (Edith) Sandvik of Bristol, 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband John, and siblings, John & Lester Sandvik, Lila (Arnold) Taplin, Nelvina (Roy) Donat and Iva (Leslie) Anderson and sons-in-law, Chuck Welk and William Bill Collins. God Bless the Memory of Edith Barton.
