E. Luena Hendrickson, age 92, Clark, the widow of Karrol Hendrickson, died in the Golden Living Center at Clark, on Thursday, December 3, 2015, where she has resided for the past week.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 10, 2015 from 4-6PM at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and will continue on Friday morning at the Church in Clark.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ in Clark with Pastor Fawn Lamb officiating. Music will be presented by Kathy Weber and Betsy Kolden. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark.
She was born Ellen Luena Harding, named after her grandmothers, on October 22, 1923 at a farm home north of Garden City, SD, the daughter of Archie and Phoebe (Gary) Harding. Luena as she became known, attended the Maydell 44 country school grades 1-8 and then Garden City High School graduating in 1941.
Following her schooling she became employed at Citizens State Bank in Garden City from 1941-1944. Luena also served as the secretary for the Clark County Farmers Elevator for 8 years. On February 22, 1944 she was united in marriage to Karrol E. Hendrickson at Watertown. The couple farmed in Day Township until 1972 when they retired and moved into Clark. The couple was the first farm to receive electricity from the R.E.A, Codington-Clark Electric. Karrol died in January of 1980.
Luena continued living in her own home until moving into the Roetell Apartments in 1999 and then into the Roetell Senior Living Center in 2010.
She was a longtime member of Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ in Clark where she taught Sunday School, was a member of the Women's Fellowship, and also served as the Church organist for many years. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and the Clark Senior Citizens.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Karrol, brothers, Robert, Glen and Merle and a sister, Gladys in infancy.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Carolyn Harding of Clark and many nieces and nephews.
