Duane Edward Dalton was born on September 17, 1963, in Watertown, SD to John and Anna (Gallisath) Dalton.  Duane was the youngest of eight children, spending his early years on a family farm near Henry, SD. He attended Henry Elementary and Watertown High School, graduating in 1981.  Duane proceeded to pursue his post-secondary education at Northern State University in Aberdeen, completing his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration in 1985.  Upon completing his university studies, Duane worked in a number of business management roles in Aberdeen, Michigan and Minnesota, before moving to Sioux Falls in 1993.  Most of his career was spent as an insurance claims adjuster, where he supported claimants and insurance carriers in processing workers compensation and other insurance claims.  In his commitment to the service of his country and community, Duane served in the Army National Guard for 11 years in both South Dakota and Minnesota while working and raising his family.

Duane met the love of his life in 1984, leading to his marriage to Angela Geary on April 12, 1986.  They gave birth to four children between 1988 and 2002, including their sons Justin, Kelly and Nathan, and their daughter Caitlin.  Duane's unwavering love and commitment to his wife and children was a defining feature throughout his life.

Duane enjoyed spending his time with his wife, caring for their children and supporting them in their academic and various extracurricular pursuits.  He assisted in coaching his children, always encouraging them to participate in activities and sports as they progressed through childhood and school.  He also enjoyed spending time in nature, fishing, traveling and gardening.  Among his family and friends, he was always known for his infectious smile and unwavering sense of humor.  He is also remembered for his signature "Dewey-isms", and contagious laugh that permeated the room.  Faith played a large role in Duane's life, as he was an active member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church for the last 26 years. He was a great example of love and loyalty to his entire family.

Grateful for having shared his life are his loving wife of 33 years, Angela; sons Justin Dalton, Sioux Falls, SD; Kelly Dalton, Huntington Beach, CA; Nathan Dalton, New York, NY; daughter Caitlin Dalton, Sioux Falls, SD; brothers Marlin (Barb) Dalton, Amherst, NH;  Ken (Marilynn) Dalton, Littleton, CO; Lowell (Barb) Dalton, Clark, SD;  sisters Sharon (Quenton) Sonnenfeld, Golden, CO; Carol (Jerry) Hanten, Webster, SD; Donna (Steve) Johnson, Watertown, SD; brothers-in-law Terry (Mireya) Geary; Gail Geary; Wayne (Jill) Geary; Bruce (Cindy) Geary; Randy Geary; Kent (Susanne) Geary; Brian Geary; sister-in-law Glenna (Larry) Remington; and nieces, nephews, aunts.
