Dorothy (Mrs. Eldon) I. Hartman, age 77, Bradley, died on Thursday, February 5, 2009 at a Watertown Hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack while en-route to the hospital with her daughter Pam. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, February 8 beginning at 3PM in the Bradley Community Center at Bradley, SD. The Reverend Jim Biswell will preside with remarks by Dee and Tom Engesser. Music will be provided by David & Carol Finstad and Hillcrest Colony singers. There will be no visitation. She was born at Clark, SD on August 19, 1931, the daughter of Wesley P. and Ellen (Larsen) Bull. Dorothy attended Clark Schools graduating in 1949. After her high school graduation she was employed at various businesses in Clark among them a caf and J.C.Penney as a clerk. She also was seen many a night at the Playhouse dancing. In December of 1953 she was united in marriage to Eldon Hartman. The couple lived in Pierre for a short time before moving to Salinas, CA. They later moved to Napa, CA where he owned and operated B & H Transport. Dorothy did the bookkeeping for the company. In 1968 they moved to Bradley where they have made their home since. While living in Bradley the couple has owned and operated Hartman Caf, Hartman Lounge and Hartman Grocery until selling the businesses in 1991. After her retirement she enjoyed countless hours outside mowing, raising her specialty chickens and guinea hens. She owned and operated the Weenie Wagon for many years. Dorothy will long be remembered for being a Mother/Grandmother to all, she was loved by all. She was a member of the CCR Clark County Riders. A talent Dorothy had was being very musically inclined, playing the organ and many other instruments. Grateful for having been a part of her life is her husband of 55 years, Eldon Hartman of Bradley, children, Pamela Hartman and husband Donald Knudsen of Bradley, James Jamie (Theresa) Hartman and Beth Engels all of Watertown; 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She also leaves siblings, Lyle (Phyllis) Bull of Clark, Larry (Phyllis) Bull of Clear Lake, Robert Bull of Watertown, Skip (Diane) Bull of El Sobrante, CA; step-brother, Lyle (Gloria) Davis of Brookings, sister-in-law, Dorothy Bull of Watertown and many nieces, nephews and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents and brothers, Don and wife Bee, Lowell and Lloyd in infancy.
