Dorothy B. Campbell, age 94, Garden City, the widow of Harry Campbell, died in the Golden Living Center at Clark on Sunday afternoon, July 6, 2008. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 11, 2008 at 11AM in the Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ at Clark with burial following in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark. Richard Harbur and Mike Henry will preside at the service. The pianist will be Judy Vockrodt with the congregation singing, "In the Garden", "Old Rugged Cross" and "He's the One". Casketbearers will be family members, Bob & Betty Campbell, Peg & Wayne Headley, Gwen Sharp, Darcy Nove, Kevin Sharp and Scott Campbell with the honorary casketbearers being Staff of the Fay Wookey Memorial Assisted Living Center and the Golden Living Center, both in Clark. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-7 PM at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and 1 hour preceding services at the Church on Friday morning. She was born on August 5, 1913 near Raymond, the daughter of Earl and Clara (Thompson) Sly. She grew up in the Raymond community and then the family later moved to Clark where she graduated from Clark High School in 1932. Following her graduation from high school, she went to Minneapolis where she attended and graduated from cosmetology school. While in Minneapolis she also acquired her love of Chinese food. She then returned to Clark where she owned and operated her own beauty shop, Dorothea's, for a number of years. On May 23, 1942 she was united in marriage to Harry Campbell at Arlington, SD. Dorothy and Harry made their home at Garden City, SD where they farmed and Dorothy was a stay-at-home mom. She enjoyed many hobbies, which included crafts, crocheting, baking, sewing, making pickles, gardening, especially loving her African violets. Part of her life was helping Harry as he traveled around the area serving many positions in the Masons, Yelduz Shrine and Eastern Star. Dorothy was baptized in the Garden City United Methodist Church and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Vasta Chapter #1, Watertown, receiving her 50-year pin. Grateful for having shared in her life are her children, Robert (Betty) Campbell of Watertown, Peg (Wayne) Headley of Clark and Gwen Sharp of Anaheim, CA, 5 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Harry in 1997 and two brothers. Services are announced by the Furness Funeral Home at Clark. Email condolences at www.furnessfuneralhome.com
