Doris Ruth Peterson, age 89, Watertown, formerly of Bradley, died in the Prairie Lakes Hospital at Watertown on Wednesday evening, August 5, 2009. She was the widow of Wilbur Peterson. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 11AM in the Crocker Lutheran Church at Crocker with Minister Marion Grimes officiating. Burial will follow in the Prairie Hill Cemetery at Bradley. Music will be presented by Marvine Obermeier as organist and Wendy Christman and Marvine Obermeier singing "In The Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross". The congregation willsing "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art". Honorary casketbearers will be her great-grandchildren with the active casketbearers being the grandchildren. Visitation hours will be on Friday from 5:30 - 7:30PM at the Furness Funeral Home in Clark. Visitation will continue at the Church 1 hour preceding services. She was born near Garden City on April 19, 1920, the daughter of Thomas Tom and Ellen Jane (Clyde) Stacey. She grew to adulthood in the Garden City area attending country school for a time in Maydell Township. After her schooling she helped on the family farm and also assisted Mabel Stacey in Clark delivering babies. On February 25, 1939 she was united in marriage to Wilbur V. Peterson at Webster. The couple lived and farmed in the Bradley/Crocker area their entire married life. Wilbur died on September 7, 1995. Doris continued living on the farm north of Crocker until moving to the Meadow Lake Assisted Living Center in January of 2006. She was a member of the Crocker Lutheran Church. Some of her fondest moments were spent outdoors, gardening, taking care of her cats, and being a farm wife. She loved to can not only vegetables but also meats and made many jars of jam and jelly. Second to none though was her enjoyment of crocheting. She spent countless hours with her crochet needles in hand making clothes for dolls, even crocheting hats, plus making many things for many, something everyone can remember her by. She really enjoyed being busy. Doris loved being with her family- the grandchildren especially were very important to her. Grateful for having shared in her life are her children, LaVerne (Barbara) Peterson of Watertown, Rose Marie (Stan) Stabler of Eureka and Elwood (Patty) Peterson of Bradley; 7 grandchildren, Brad (Brenda) Stabler of Strasburg, ND, Jodi (Eric) Heiser of Sioux Falls, Jaci (Jeff) Zulk of Owatonna, MN, Travis Peterson of Bradley and fianc Krysta Hemmingson of Clark, Tanya (Josh) Lieberman of Pierre, Troy Peterson of Bradley and Tara (Jesse) Huber of Crocker; 7 great-grandchildren, Jerik, Alyssa and Jon Stabler, Elizabeth and Samantha Heiser and Jacob and Madison Zulk. She also leaves siblings, Margaret Peterson of Webster, Francis Red (Lois) Stacey of Bradley, Dorothy Vik of Doland, Mary Bergan, Russell Bud (Dorothy) Stacey and Ida (Charlie) Lundholm all of Madison, SD.
