Doris M. Haugland, age 74, died on Monday, November 15, 2010 in Tucson, AZ following a brief illness. She had fallen in a parking lot after having lunch at her favorite restaurant in Green Valley, AZ. She was admitted to St. Marys Hospital in Tucson on November 8 and was transferred to the Carondelet St. Marys Hospice and Palliative Care facility on Friday November 12.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 10:30 AM in the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Clark with The Reverend Robin Schaunaman officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark. The organist will be Rosella Hanson with the soloist being Larry Keyes with Wendy Christman as the accompanist. The honorary casketbearers will be E. D. Gene Furness, D. G. Don Syvertson, Jim Jenkins, Jim Forest, Jim Hurlbut and Gordon Garnos. The active casketbearers will be Ethan Audus, Bob Schlueter, Roger Helkenn, Keith Warren, Terry Schlagel and Les Solberg.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 22, 2010 from 4-6 PM at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and at the Church Tuesday morning after 9AM.
She was born on June 1, 1936 in Jackson County, MN, the daughter of Clifford and Alice (Moeller) Hussong. She attended school in Minnesota graduating from Okebena High School. She then attended and graduated from the Medical Technology School in Minneapolis, MN and then moved to Clark, SD where she began employment at the Clark Medical Center. She continued working at the clinic until she met and married David M. Haugland on February 6, 1957 at the St. Johns Lutheran Church in Okebena. David had moved to Clark in 1956, purchasing the Nash Funeral Home, which he and Doris operated as the Haugland Funeral Home until they retired on July 1, 1991. They have continued to make Clark their summer home spending the last 16 winters in Arizona.
Through the years she has been active in her Church, St. Paul Lutheran Church at Clark, serving on the council, teaching Vacation Bible School and Sunday School and was a member of WELCA. In the community she delivered Meals on Wheels for several years, was the Past-President of the Jaycettes and is a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow. While in Arizona, she attended the Desert Hills Lutheran Church.
In her younger years she enjoyed traveling with her husband and Barb and Jim Jenkins, visiting many places in the United States, she also traveled to Norway five times to visit the Haugland relatives and besides spending the winters in Arizona, she also enjoyed bus trips with David and Dick & Judy Andrews.
Grateful for having shared her life is her husband of over 53 years, David of Clark, a son, Dan of Portland, Maine, daughter, Denise (Steve) Perry of Presho, 2 granddaughters, Madison Haugland of Omaha, NE. and Abby Perry of Presho, SD, and a brother, Jerry (Jewell) Hussong of Holiday Island, Ark. Also sharing in her life were her in-laws, Maurice (Pam) Haugland of Gold Canyon, AZ, Karen (Ken) Poppe of Wall, SD, Essy (Marvin) Moser of Gilette, WY and a god-daughter, Kimberli Poppe-Smart of Anchorage, Alaska.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Alice Hussong.
