Doris "Jeanne" DesLauriers, age 89 of Doland, died Saturday, July 11, 2015, at the Redfield Community Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2015 from 5-7PM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Turton with a Liturgical Wake service at 7PM. Fr. Kelly will officiate. A funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Kelly at 10:30 AM on Friday, July 17, 2015 in the St. Joseph Catholic Church at Turton with burial following in the Church cemetery.
Doris Jeanne Gergen was born January 12, 1926, the fourth of five children to John and Shirley (Riddle) Gergen on a farm near Raymond, SD. She attended Ash County School and graduated from Raymond High School and Northern College to obtain her teaching degree.
She married Gerald Barrie and to this union, one daughter was born. In 1960, she married Victor DesLauriers, and to this union, 3 sons were born. In the early years she taught at Logan Country School and later at Redfield Public School, Conde Public School, Bradley and Doland School Districts. She enjoyed keeping up with her children and grandchildren's sporting events. After retiring she enjoyed going on the road with her husband while he worked construction, going to the Senior Citizens Center, solving crossword puzzles, watching the Minnesota Twins, and playing cards. She especially enjoyed playing pinochle and during the holidays making homemade candy for friends and relatives.
She is survived by her husband, Victor; daughter, BonNae Funk, of Aberdeen, SD; three sons, Frank, John (Annie) and Tim (Kam) all of Doland; brother, John "Jack" Gergen, of Sartel, MN; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Gergen and sisters, Evelyn (Vincent) Hill and Bonnie Lou (Melvin) Dix.
