Donna Jean Clyde

Donna J. Clyde, age 82, Clark, the widow of Gib Clyde, died in the Prairie Lakes Hospital at Watertown on Sunday, October 14, 2012 after a brief illness. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 from 4-6PM at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and will continue at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clark on Thursday at noon. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 1PM in the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Clark with The Reverend Robin Schaunaman officiating. The organist will be Dorothy Fuller with special music presented by Wendy Christman. The casketbearers will be her grandsons, Tim, Jeff, Mike and Sam Clyde with the granddaughters serving as honorary casketbearers. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark. She was born Donna Jean Knox on August 15, 1930 at Willow Lake, SD, the daughter of Clifford and Ethel (Torper) Knox. She was schooled at Willow Lake until she was nine and at that time the family moved to Clark where she continued her schooling. On March 22, 1948 she was united in marriage to Gilbert Clyde at Madison, MN. The couple lived and farmed in Day Township until his death in May of 1985. A short time later, she moved to a farm north of Garden City where she helped milking cows. She lived and worked on that farm for 10 years until moving into Garden City for one year. Donna then moved into Dakota Manor Apts. in Clark where she had lived until a couple of weeks ago. On October 2 she became a resident of the Golden Living Center at Clark after spending a few days in the hospital. In addition to working all aspects of the farming operation, Donna also worked as a waitress in the Pantry Café; Harry Brown's Café and also assisted her son, Kevin, at his café in Medora, ND on several occasions. She thoroughly enjoyed working in Medora, as she loved visiting with many of the locals she had gotten to know over the years- just as much as the local's enjoyed her wit! Donna also enjoyed quilting, gardening and canning, sewing and spending time with the great-grandchildren. For many years Donna has served on the funeral committee at St. Paul Lutheran Church and has also helped in many other aspects in her church home - making lefse, quilting, lutefisk supper to name a few. She really enjoyed spending time at the church. In the community, Donna served several terms as President of the Garden City Legion Auxiliary and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clark. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, a son, Joseph Carl in 1948, brothers, Ronald and Dennis and a brother-in-law, Gene Swanson. Survivors are her sons, Darwin (Wanda) Clyde of Garden City, Rodney Clyde and friend, Joyce DesCamps both of Aberdeen and Kevin (Beth) Clyde of Medora, ND, 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She also leaves brothers, Jerry Knox of Watertown, Clifford, Jr. "Jack" (Sharon) Knox of Watertown, Roger (Sandy) Knox of Sioux Falls and sisters, Darlene (Burton) Langendorfer of Omaha, NE, Jeanette Swanson and Ann Ludwig both of Watertown and a sister-in-law, Darla Knox of Britton, SD. Funeral arrangements are with the Furness Funeral Home at Clark. Per Donna's request, memorials would be preferred in lieu of flowers. www.furnessfuneralhome.com
