Darrell John Elvik, age 69, Clark, died at his home on Thursday, April 22, 2021.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 30, 2021 at 2PM in the Furness Funeral Home Chapel at Clark with Pastor Mark Tracy officiating.  Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark.  Family members will serve as Casketbearers.  The visitation will be 2 hours prior to services in the chapel.

Darrell John Elvik was born on March 12, 1952 at DeSmet, the son of John and Jessie (Cross) Elvik.  At a young age the family moved to Chaska, MN where he started school and then the family moved back to South Dakota to the town of Vilas, near Howard.  They later moved to DeSmet and then to Lake Preston where he graduated 8 ^th grade.  He later obtained his GED.  Darrell attended trucking school in Wisconsin.

In 1972, he began a career of long haul/over the road trucking.  Over the years he drove for several trucking lines, he also owned and operated his own rig, driving for Schneider Trucking.  Darrell then drove for Crete Truck Lines, out of Lincoln, NE, driving over 5 million miles, retiring after 21 years.  While on the road, he listened to the Art Bell show and to Johnny Cash.  Darrell was known for being a practical joker, drawing someone in with a story, that later turned out to be pure story!

On October 29, 2013 he was united in marriage to Cindy Lou Swanberg Brown in Midwest City, OK.   The couple moved to Clark 7 years ago.  He loved being outside working in the yard and the house.  In his free moments he enjoyed watching baseball and rodeos.

Preceding him in death was his mother and sisters, (in infancy) Nancy Ann Elvik and Helen M. Elvik Thomas.

Survivors include his father, John Elvik of Lennox, his wife, Cindy Lou of Clark, children, Shavonna (Mike) Vick of Monticello, IA, Tami (Benjamin) Campbell of Holden,MO, Mary Louise Brown of Moundsville, WV and Wyndi (Tim) Fietkau of Norman, OK; 17 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by 10 siblings, Alvin R. Elvik of Portales, NM, Beverly (George) Enderson of Dubuque, IA, Carl H. Elvik of Carthage, Elaine Elvik Bailey of Aberdeen, Fern M. Gomes of Logan, NM, Gordon L. Elvik of Milbank, Ivan M. Elvik of Carthage, Jesse J. Elvik of Kennewick, WA, Donna (Timothy) Rost of Circle Pines, MN, and Grant E. Elvik of Mora, MN.
