Darlene E. Merkel, age 85, Bradley, the widow of Albert Merkel, died early Monday morning, November 29, 2010 in the Golden Living Center at Clark.
Visitation will be held on Friday from noon until 2PM with a prayer service beginning at 2PM all in the Furness Funeral Home Chapel at Clark with Minister Marion Grimes presiding. The casketbearers will be Paul, Angela, Nathan & Nicolas Merkel and Joshua Graves.
A fellowship time will follow the services in the funeral home community/fellowship room with a private family interment to follow in the Prairie Hill Cemetery at Bradley.
Darlene E. Scott was born on January 22, 1925 at Bradley, SD, the daughter of Dan and Mabel (Dokken) Scott. She was schooled at Bradley.
On December 29, 1942 Darlene was united in marriage to Albert Merkel at Manhattan, KS. Albert was in the United States Army for the next three years the couple lived in Indiana, North Carolina, Kansas and Nebraska before returning to the Bradley community after his discharge in 1945. The couple lived in Bradley until his death in 1996 and Darlene has continued making Bradley her home until 2 weeks ago.
Darlene was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Bradley for many years.
Survivors include her sons, Danny (Connie) Merkel and Don Merkel all of Bradley, 4 grandchildren, Paul, Angela (Joshua Graves), Nathan (Megan) and Nicholas Merkel and 5 great-grandchildren, Logan, Kolby, Taylor, Katelynn and Alayna. She also leaves a sister, Juanita Scherer of Martin, SD.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Albert on August 17, 1996, 4 grandchildren, Sandra Kay, Jacob Daniel, Mya Marie and Joshua Reed Merkel, siblings, Roy & Oscar Scott and Muriel Gullickson and a brother-in-law, Robert Scherer.
Funeral services are announced by the Furness Funeral Home of Clark.
