Dannie W Chisholm, age 73, Clark, formerly of Ft. Pierre, died in the Prairie Lakes Hospital at Watertown on Wednesday afternoon, April 1, 2015. Services are set for Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 1PM in the Furness Funeral Home Chapel at Clark with visitation hours beginning at 11AM the day of the services. The Reverend Gary Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be on Friday, April 10, 2015 at 11:00AM in the Scotty Philip Memorial Cemetery at Ft. Pierre.
Visitation will be from 9:30-11AM at the Isburg Funeral Chapel in Pierre on Friday morning.
He was born on August 20, 1941 at Big Spring, TX, the son of Dayton and Lois (McKaskle) Chisholm. The family moved to a ranch near Ft. Pierre, SD when he was a young age. Dannie attended public school through the 8th grade. At the age of 13, in 1955, Dannie sustained a horse accident/injury and suffered severe injuries. He was in several hospitals before his family, realizing a need for additional therapy, built a home in Huron, SD and moved there to a life style built around Dannie and his therapy programs. He was loved and cared for by his family at home and received intensive therapy at the Huron Clinic, attending therapy treatments in the morning, returning home for lunch and a nap, and then returning for additional therapy and education classes in the afternoon. He did this for three years and then was transferred to the Crippled Children's Hospital in Sioux Falls where he continued intensive rehab therapy and schooling from 1959-1962.
The family sold their home in Huron during this time and moved back to the ranch near Pierre. Dannie entered a Sioux Falls Nursing Home in 1962 and the later transferred to the Clark Care Center on July 9, 1964. He was the 37th resident admitted to the newly built facility. He was 22 years old when admitted.
Dannie enjoyed playing the piano, listening to Classical music and watching TV. One of his favorite pastimes was teasing others and always with an answer, "You Bet!" Preceding him in death was his father.
Survivors include his mother, Lois (George) Michael of Eden Prairie, MN and a sister, Jan (Neil) Martin of Moscow, ID; nieces, Marie (David) Duncan, Sara (Torrey) Lawrence and nephews, Andrew Martin and Benjamin (Becky) Martin. The family is forever grateful to the Clark Care Center/Golden Living Center for the wonderful care given to Dannie these past 51 years, you were his family here and played a major role in his life.
