Myron Dale Wookey, age 73, a lifelong resident of Clark, died late Monday afternoon, April 10, 2006 in the Prairie Lakes Hospital at Watertown. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 14, 2006 at 11AM at the United Methodist Church in Clark with the Reverend Warren Rhodes officiating. Music will be by Wanda Bethke as organist with Here I Am Lord being sung by Brigett Wookey and the congregation and Jackie McNeil and Brigett singing On Eagles Wings The congregation will sing the Hymn of Promise. Burial will follow in the Rosehill Cemetery at Clark with military rites conducted by the Smith-Cagley American Legion Post 60 of Clark. Honorary casketbearers will be the members of the Clark Senior Citizens and the residents and staff of the Fay Wookey Memorial Assisted Living Center at Clark. The active casketbearers will be Mark McHenry, Chuck Keyes, Brent Norm Anderson, Dean Rasmussen, John Arthur, Todd Sundvold, Bryan Wientjes, Gary Dekker, Don Deslauriers and Terrill Wheeler. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-7 PM at the Furness Funeral Home in Clark with Masonic Rites being conducted at 6PM. Visitation will continue at the Church on Friday morning from 9AM until service time. Dale Wookey was born, on January 11, 1933 in Day Township, Clark County, South Dakota, the son of Frank and Fay (Hart) Wookey. He attended school in Day Township and then graduated from Clark High School in 1952. His father had died in 1944; Dale with his brothers, Kendall and Lyman took over the farming operation, along with their mother. In 1953 Dale enlisted in the U.S. Army at Fort Riley, KS. He served his country during the Korean Conflict and was discharged in 1955. On June 15, 1958 he was united in marriage to Joy Feller from Groton. The couple moved to a farm in Day Township where he farmed and lived until December of 2003. They were part of the Wookey Potato Company. He was a baptized and confirmed member of the United Methodist Church at Clark. Dale will long be remembered for a man of many hobbies, some of them being trapping, playing cards, especially pinochle, hunting and playing pool, in fact he was known around the area as South Dakota Fats! He was involved also in many organizations among them being a member of the Smith-Cagley American Legion Post #60, a lifetime member of the Louis Larson VFW Post #4994, TOPS Club, Clark Senior Citizens, the NFO National Farm Organization and the Farm Bureau. For many years he has been a member of the Masonic Lodge at Clark until they closed and now is a member of the Raymond Lodge, the Yelduz Shrine Club and also a member of the Northeastern Scooter Patrol. One of his greatest pleasures in life, besides spending time with his family, loving to play checkers with the grandchildren, was the time he would spend going with Gene Swanson, taking children and families to the Shrine Hospital in Minneapolis. Grateful for having shared in his life is his wife Joy of Clark, children, Susan Oberle and husband Tim of Overland Park, KS, Tom Wookey and wife Kathy and Gayle Wookey all of Clark; 6 grandchildren, Brittney, Trevor, Brigett, Stephanie, Cody Dale and Matthew; brother, Lyman Wookey and wife Nadine of Clark, sister, Marie Knopf and husband Homer of Sioux Falls and a sister-in-law, Janice (Wookey) Nordhus and husband Robert of Clark.
