Dale D. McElroy, age 47, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, formerly of Henry, died Friday, October 14, 2016 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls after a short illness.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 19, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. at the Furness Funeral Home Chapel in Clark with a Liturgical Wake Service at 7 p.m. with Father Dan Smith presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the Mass of Christian Burial which will be held Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Henry's Catholic Church in Henry with Father Dan Smith celebrating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. All of the residents and staff of Mariana House in Sioux Falls should consider themselves as honorary casketbearers. The active casketbearers will be Troy VanSickle, Adam & Glen Wilson, Mike & Jeff McElroy and Aaron Afa. Dorothy Fuller will be providing the music.
Dale was born on May 25th, 1969 at St. Ann's Hospital in Watertown, the son of Donald and Rose (Lenards) McElroy. He spent 9 years in the deaf/blind program in Aberdeen and then the next 17 years at the Redfield State Developmental Center. For the past 18 years, Dale has resided in the Mariana House, a group home for LifeScape, formerly the South Dakota Achieve/Sioux Vocational Services.
Dale will be remembered for being a mild mannered person. He was very much loved by all who worked with him. He enjoyed going to the Sioux Falls Canaries Games, listening to country music, watching movies and being an avid Denver Broncos fan.
Grateful for having shared in his life is his mother, Rose of Henry, brothers, Dave (Becky) McElroy of Sioux Falls, Bob McElroy of Orlando, FL and a sister, Patti (Brian) Nicholson of Pinckney, MI, 4 nieces and a nephew.
Preceding him in death was his father, Donald in 2009 and his grandparents.
Memorials would be preferred in his memory of the LifeScape Program of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
