Cheryl J. Swanson, age 71, Clark, the widow of Donald "Hey" Swanson, died peacefully on Sunday night, August 10, 2014 in the Golden Living Center at Clark after a courageous battle due to cancer. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 from 5-7PM at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and will continue on Thursday after 9:00 AM at the Church in Clark. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 10:30 AM in the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Clark with The Reverend Gary Anderson officiating. The organist will be Dorothy Fuller with Roger Nordhus providing special music. Honorary casketbearers will be Mavis Bymers, Alice Heim, Rosemary Schmitt, Les Solberg and all family and friends. The active casketbearers will be Terry Severson, Ryan Helkenn, Larry & Viola Dunlavy, and Jeff & Kim Wells. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark. She was born Cheryl Joyce Wells on June 12, 1943 at Clark, the daughter of Forrest E. and LaVern E. (Bailey) Wells. Cheryl grew up in Woodland Township, NW of Clark, attended grade school in the Southwest Woodland and the Northwest Woodland one-room school houses. She attended her freshman year at Thorp and then Clark High School, graduating as Valedictorian in her class of 1961. While in high school she was active in basketball, cheerleading, mixed chorus and girl's glee club. In 1961 she married Donald A. "Hey" Swanson, Jr. at Watertown and to this union, a son, Dale was born. Over the years, Cheryl had worked as legal secretary for Steve Sherwood, Esq., the Clark County Courthouse, and in 1980, she and Mavis Bymers, took over the Clark Title and Abstract Office and ran that business until selling and retiring in 2012. She was baptized and confirmed in the Crocker Lutheran Church where she also taught Sunday School. In 1961 she joined St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clark where she has remained a member, teaching Sunday School and also helping with the annual Lutefisk Supper for many years. She enjoyed many activities during her lifetime including water skiing, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, hunting - especially pheasant hunting and fellowship with the out of state hunters, and horseback riding, She was a founding member of the Crocker Saddle Club annual Trail Ride. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Don in 2011 and a sister, Darlene Solberg in 2006. Grateful for having shared in her life is her son, Dale (Sherry) Swanson of Clark, siblings, Dick (Heather) Wells of Conde, Allen (Sandy) Wells of Watertown, Connie Rossow of Clark, and Shirley Wells of Groton. She also leaves a granddaughter, Jeannie (Clint) Rainford, 2 great-grandsons, Daelyn and Peyton, a great-granddaughter, Taryn, a brother-in-law, Les Solberg of Clark along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
