Charles Henry Taylor, age 88, a lifelong resident of the Conde and Crandall, SD communities, died on Thursday morning, August 17, 2006, at the Sun Dial Manor in Bristol, SD following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at 10:30AM in the Conde United Methodist Church at Conde with the Reverend Jan Price officiating. Burial will follow in the Crandall Cemetery at Crandall. Music will be presented by Betty Taylor as organist with the congregation singing "I'm Coming Home" and "Amazing Grace". Mr. Taylor was born on February 25, 1918 at Conde, the son of Leigh and Caroline (Ehrler) Taylor. He received his education and grew to adulthood in the Conde area. He was united in marriage to Delphine Loomis on December 28, 1939 at Vancouver, Washington. The couple lived in Oregon for a short time before returning to South Dakota in 1941. The couple lived in the Crandall/Clark/Conde area since that time. They farmed, raising mainly small grain, and were also involved in a dairy operation for many years. He also was involved in doing custom harvesting work for many years. He did welding, electrical work, and built several homes in the Conde area. He was well known as a jack-of-all-trades. Mrs. Taylor preceded him in death on September 27, 2004. He entered the Sun Dial Manor in Bristol on October 6, 2004 where he resided until the time of his death. The Taylors' enjoyed hosting out-of-state hunters in their home for many years. Among his hobbies were hunting, fishing and collecting guns. He was a member of the NRA for several years. Among survivors grateful for having shared in his life are his children, Delbert Taylor and wife Jan of Houston, TX, Ralph Taylor and wife Bonnie of Bristol, Sharon Sauer and husband Tom of Conde, Leeann Geurts of Minneapolis, MN, and Dawn Kendrick and fianc' Cliff Hartman of Bradley; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Taylor of Conde; son-in-law, Wilbur 'Junior' Dunlavy of Conde; 19 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Caryl Taylor of Conde and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delphine; his parents; a son, Wayne; a daughter, Charlene Dunlavy; four grandchildren; five brothers, Ralph, Richard, Gail, LaVern and Darel; and two sisters, Eileen and Margorie.
