"Doug" attended the Holy Rosary Elementary School in Kranzburg and graduated from Waverly High School in 1964. Growing up he spent many hours working on the family farm.  Following graduation he worked at a mink ranch, Haan's Service Station and in 1965 began driving truck with John Deere in Watertown.

He married Sharon Wall on February 21, 1966 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waverly. In 1986, Green Line merged with the Watertown dealership becoming Codington-Clark Equipment. He retired from there in 2007. Charlie and Sharon owned and operated Porky's Drive Inn from 1985-1995.

Charlie's favorite past time was spending time with his family. His children and grandchildren were very special to him. He also truly enjoyed getting together with friends. Many of those fun times were at the Missouri River where he loved to fish. He also enjoyed gardening, hunting, meat processing and was well-known for his wine making abilities. Charlie also enjoyed spending time with his dog, Merlot.

He was a charter member of the Clark Lions Club where he had served as president and had received the Melvin Jones Award. He was a current member of the St. Michael's Catholic Parish and a past member of the Clark Chamber and City Council.
