Funeral services for Mrs. Carrie Johnson, age 90, a lifelong resident of the Elrod community near Clark will be on Saturday, October 9, 2004 at 10AM in the United Methodist Church at Clark with the Reverend Warren Rhodes officiating. Music will be provided by Dorothy Fuller as organist and Gale Dekker singing. Casketbearers will be Dale, Mike and Dave Johnson, Dan Nelson, John Wookey and Ryan Easthouse. Honorary Casketbearers will be all grandchildren and great-grandchldren. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark. She was the widow of John E. Johnson. Mrs. Johnson died early Wednesday morning in a Watertown care center where she had resided for a short time. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5-7 PM at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and 1 hour prior to services at the Church on Saturday morning. She was born in Elrod Township, Elrod on April 11, 1914, the daughter of Edward and Julia (McElroy) Schaaf. She attended the Harvey/Hoffman School Elrod No. 57, 4 miles north of Naples. On October 27, 1931 she was united in marriage to John E. Johnson at Watertown. The couple lived their entire married life together on the farm in Elrod Township. In addition to helping with many farming duties, she also assisted local farmers with the fall potato harvest and all worked at Chef Reddy Foods in Clark. Mr. Johnson died in January of 1994. She enjoyed gardening, canning and cooking, but second to none was her love of quilting. Another favorite pastime was making lefse. Carrie was a longtime member of the Friendly Neighbors club and the United Methodist Church at Clark. Among survivors who are grateful for having shared in her life are her sons, Erland Bud Johnson and wife Margie of Clark, Marlin Johnson and wife Joan of Aberdeen, an Honorary Son, Howard Easthouse and wife Diane of Henry, 2 sisters, Wilma Ulven of Watertown and Bertha Doeden of Clark; 2 daughters-in-law, Clarine Johnson and Lucy Johnson of Clark, 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson Mason Nelson and 5 step great-great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, 2 sons, Harold and Morris Bob Johnson, 5 brothers, Cecil, Eddie, Larry, Max and Dale Schaaf and 2 sisters, Lillian Harding and Emma Benthin.
