Carleton Marie Hanson

Carleton M. Hanson, age 85, Clark, the widow of Loren Hanson, died in the Avantara Clark Center on Monday morning, February 22, 2021.

Funeral services, for her family, will be held at the graveside on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at the South Elrod Cemetery.  Pastor Mark Tracy will officiate with special music being provided by Mallory Harris.  Casketbearers will be members of her family.  Please follow CDC guidelines with masks being recommended.

She was born Carleton Marie Seaberg on August 8, 1935, the daughter of Carl and Martha (Cochran) Seaberg.  She attended South Elrod country school and then graduated from Clark High School in 1953.

On September 6, 1953 she was united in marriage to Loren Hanson at the South Elrod Church, actually the last couple married at that Church.  While Loren was in the service, they lived in Colorado and California.  Carleton worked for Frontier Oil Company in Colorado and for Farmers Insurance in California.  In 1957, Loren was discharged from the service and they returned to Elrod Township where they lived and farmed, raising their family.  While the children were growing up, Carleton was a homemaker.  As the children got older, and possibly to avoid riding the potato harvester, she began working for the Clark County Register of Deeds.  Later she worked for the Law office of Steve Sherwood.  Following their retirement, they started wintering in Arizona in the 1990's.  The couple also spent many hours at the Missouri River fishing.

Besides wintering in Arizona and fishing at the river in South Dakota, she loved to sing. Carleton sang for many funerals throughout the area as well as being a member of the choir in Clark and at Gold Canyon.  Quilting though was her love, being known as an extraordinary quilter. In her younger years she was an avid bowler, her team winning numerous titles at the Clark Lanes.  She was a member of the Clark United Methodist Church and the Gold Canyon Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Loren, daughter, Valerie and brother, Robert.

Survivors include her son, Mark Hanson of Springfield, IL and a daughter, Sherry (Wayne) Harris of Clark, and a sister, Margaret Winsel Boorda of Bountiful, UT.  She also leaves her grandchildren, Trent (Mallory) Harris of Wichita, KS and Matt Harris of Omaha, NE.
