Carl E. Dreher, age 84, a lifelong resident of Clark, died at his home southwest of Clark on Saturday morning, October 30, 2004 after a long illness due to cancer. Funeral services on Wednesday at 10:30 AM in the Peace Lutheran Church at Clark with burial in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark. The Reverend Mark Guthmiller will officiate and Karen McGraw will be the organist. Honorary casketbearers will be the grandchildren, Home Health & Hospice caregivers and LouAnn Streff and staff of the Sioux Valley clinic at Clark. Active casketbearers will be Roger, Robert, Larry & Steve Dreher, Doug Brush, Brad Temple and Charles Klaassen. Visitation Tuesday from 4-7PM at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and 1 hour prior to services Wednesday at the Church. He was born Carl Emil Albert Dreher on September 19, 1920 in Hague Township, South of Clark, the son of Fred and Anna (Thies) Dreher. He attended country school through the eighth grade. Following his schooling he continued helping on the family farm. On October 14, 1951 he was united in marriage to Shirley Gillies at the Plymouth Congregational Church at Clark. The couple has lived and farmed in Darlington Township their entire life. In addition to farming, Carl also helped Vernie Petersen with the construction business for many years. While living in Darlington Township, he also assisted as a lineman in the party line telephone operation. Some of his hobbies included crafts and woodworking, gardening and bird watching. Second to none though was his love of spending time with the grandchildren. He was a longtime member and served on the Church board of The Hague Lutheran Church south of Clark until it closed when he then became a member of the Peace Lutheran Church at Clark. Grateful for having shared in his life is his wife Shirley of Clark, children, Randy Dreher and wife Ellen of Watertown, Rodney Dreher of Clark and Rhonda Miller and husband Travis of Salem; 8 grandchildren, Trenton, Lauren, Kohl, Amanda, Eugene, Sheryl, Laura and James and 3 great-grandchildren, Austin, Kaley and Karigan. Also surviving him is a brother Emery Dreher of Sibley, IA. Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers, Earl, Robert and Lloyd Dreher and a sister Ellen Klaassen.
