He was born Byrl Wesley Logan on May 28, 1928 in Darlington Township, near Clark, SD, the son of Albert Ward and Nellie (Dewitt) Logan. In 1935 he moved with his family to Logan Township where he attended school and graduated from Logan High School in 1946. Following high school he attended Augustana College for one year. On September 30, 1947 he was united in marriage to Luella Ann Tigner at the First United Methodist Church in Watertown. In 1948 he returned to the farm and farmed the ground until 1999. In 1967 the couple moved into Clark, building a new home, so his daughters could attend school and their activities in the evening. While living on the farm, Byrl enjoyed working and farming the land, not taking much time for any hobbies. He did however have a love of flying a small plane, even to the point of cutting into a field at his farm, just for a place to land. When the field wasn't ready for landing, the road always worked too! Due to health reasons, Byrl had to retire from the farm, but still enjoyed helping area farmers whenever he was needed. Byrl was an active and faithful member of the United Methodist Church, both on a local and conference level. He sang for countless funerals over the years as a soloist and also as a mixed quartet. Byrl also played the accordion, guitar, organ, and the piano, thoroughly enjoying all aspects of music. In the community he had served on the board of directors of Community Oil for some 25 years. He and Luella enjoyed countless hours of square dancing and he later became a square dance caller, calling for many clubs in Eastern South Dakota. He also was a member of the Flying Farmers of South Dakota. Preceding him in death were his parents, a daughter, Cynthia Voas, siblings; Marvin (Mabel) Logan, Hazel Foiles, Kenneth Logan, Mildred (Harold) Graves, Gladys (Robert) Schuck, and Donald (Clarice) Logan. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Luella of Clark, children, R. Douglas (Debbi) Logan of Bloomington, IL, Yvonne Darlene Logan of Watertown, SD, Sandra Denise (Jay) Wano of Latrobe, PA, a son-in-law, Raleigh Voas of Fort Collins, CO and siblings, Bonnie Jean Surdez of California and Orvin (Jan) Logan of Selah, WA. Byrl is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Lorrayne Logan and a brother-in-law, Delmar Foiles both of Clark,.
