Berniece Tiggelaar, age 82, Willow Lake, SD, the widow Robert Tiggelaar, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2009, while a resident of the Fountain Springs Health Care Center in Rapid City.
Funeral services will be Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 10:30 AM in the Congregational Church at Willow Lake with The Reverend Rosanne Anderson officiating. Music will be provided by Rhonda Michalski and Lisa Bruley. The casketbearers will be Willie Rydbom, Darwin Nogelmeier, Woody Tiggelaar, Rolland Thoreson, Clifton and Gaylon Bratland. Burial will follow in Collins Cemetery at Willow Lake.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 6-8 PM at the Church in Willow Lake and will continue 1 hour preceding services.
Berniece Irene Bratland was born on February 11, 1927, the daughter of Oscar and Emma (Peterson) Bratland at their farm in Clark County, SD. She was baptized on March 27, 1927 and confirmed on August 17, 1941 in the Grace Lutheran Church at Willow Lake. She attended the Warkenthien School in Lake Township through the eighth grade and graduated from Willow Lake High School in 1945.
She was united in marriage to Robert Tiggelaar on June 28, 1946. They farmed southeast of Willow Lake until his death in 1987. Berniece moved into an apartment in Willow Lake in the fall of 2000.
Berniece was an active member of the Willow Lake United Church of Christ and the Womens Fellowship, Willow Lake Senior Citizens, the Work and Chat Neighborhood Club for over 50 years, Eastern Star, and had served on the Parkview Nursing Home building board (Bryant Development Corp.) for 18 years.
Berniece loved to travel and had gone on may bus tour trips, traveling throughout the United States. Her dedication to her Church, family and friends made for a full life and many lasting memories.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her children, Nila (Gordon) Garry of Gillette, Wyoming, Jerry (Lois) Tiggelaar, of Norwood-Young America, MN, and Dawn (Brad) Bargmann of Rapid City, grandsons, Michael Garry, Kyle Bargmann and Connor Bargmann; a brother-in-law, Donald Tiggelaar, three sisters-inlaw, Mary Kay Tiggelaar, Lois Nogelmeier and Grace Bratland, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, three brothers, a sister and two brothers-in-law.
