Barbara "Barb" (Mrs. James) Jenkins, age 67 of rural Raymond died in a Clark care center early Monday morning, January 14, 12008 after an illness due to cancer. Funeral services will be Friday, January 18, 2008 at 10:30 AM in the First Presbyterian Church at Raymond with Pastor Donna Nickels officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark. Following the interment, everyone is invited to the Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ hall for a lunch and a time of fellowship. Music will be presented by pianist Deb Waldner with congregational singing. Casketbearers will be Tim and Steve Mehlberg, John Hermoe, Oscar Wenholm, David Putman and Rod Steiger. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-7 PM at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and 1 hour preceding services at the Church on Friday morning. She was born at Clark, Barbara Gladys LaBay, the daughter of Howard W. and Gladys (Ortberg) LaBay on September 23, 1940 and until age 18 she lived on the LaBay family farm 8 ' miles north of Raymond with five sisters, Judy, Paula, Ann, Sally and Nancy and three brothers, Warren, Richard and Steve. She went to school at Ash Consolidated School though the 8th grade and then graduated from Raymond High School in 1958. Upon her graduation, she attended cosmetology school in Sioux Falls and continued hairstyling for the next 44 years. On January 24th, 1960 she was united in marriage to James Jenkins, also from Raymond, at the First Presbyterian Church in Raymond. After their marriage she and Jim lived in Raymond where she operated a beauty salon in her home and then in 1965 they moved to the Jenkins Family Farm north of Raymond where she also operated a salon in her home for the next 38 years. She was a baptized member of the First Presbyterian Church at Raymond until her death. Some of her hobbies included painting, quilting, gardening ' both vegetables and flowers, reading and working crossword puzzles and watching birds. Some of her fondest moments were spent at the lake cabin at Lake Kampeska near Watertown, where Barb and Jim spent many, many hours. Survivors include her husband James Jenkins of Raymond, two sons, Todd Jenkins and wife Brenda and Brian Jenkins all of Clark, 3 grandchildren, Tony Jenkins and fianc' Heather and Becky and Tyson Jenkins; 8 siblings, Warren (Lois) LaBay of Lakewood, CA, Judy (Clayton) Bogenrief of Volga, SD, Paula (Wayne) Carlson of Raymond, Richard (Bonnie) LaBay of Aberdeen, SD, Sally (Don) Handke of Raymond, Ann (Carl) Fischer of Watertown, Nancy (Doug) Wirt of Watertown and Steve (Kathy) LaBay of Willow Lake and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Preceding her in death were her parents and a son, Tony. Services are announced by the Furness Funeral Home at Clark where there is an on-line registry at www.furnessfuneralhome.com
