Barbara Neal Hofer Peterson

Barbara Neal Hofer Peterson, age 88, Watertown, SD, died Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Avantara Clark.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at 2 PM at the Furness Funeral Home in Clark with Pastor Gerald Volk as officiant.  Visitation will be from noon until the services begin on Tuesday, May 16.  Refreshments will follow in the Furness Funeral Home Fellowship Room with burial in the Bethel Church Cemetery of rural Yale, SD at a later date.

She was born on May 29, 1934, in Bradley, SD, to Dora (Miller) and Chet Neal. The family moved to Clark in 1944.

She married Dennis Hofer of Carpenter, SD on August 15, 1952, and moved to the Hofer family farm 3 miles from Carpenter where they raised 5 children. In 1976 they moved to Huron, SD; in 1978 they built a home in Clark where they lived until Dennis' death in 1989. She married LaVern Peterson of Crocker, SD on September 8, 2001, and they lived in Watertown until her death. They attended Watertown Christian Church.

Barb is survived by her loving husband LaVern Peterson of Watertown; son-in-law Rick Hill of Fremont, NE; 4 sons: Clark Hofer of Watertown; Matthew (Julie) Hofer of Bryant, SD; Daniel (Connie) Hofer of Fulshear, TX; and Mark (Martha) Hofer of Eau Claire, WI; 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Margaret Neal of Watertown; Karen Neal of Raleigh, NC; and Rose Marie (Stan) Stabler of Eureka; brothers-in-law Gordon Warne of Bloomer, WI; and Elwood (Patty) Peterson of Bradley, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death in addition to first husband Dennis Hofer, were daughter Debra Hill; her parents; in-laws David and Rebecca Hofer and Wilbur and Doris Peterson; brothers Richard, Donald, Robert and Cale Neal; sisters Alice Warne and Jeanette Seefeldt; sisters-in-law Alice Neal, Ethel Neal, Ella Hofer Peters, and Joyce Hofer; and brothers-in-law Stanley Seefeldt, David Hofer, and Clarence Hofer.
