Barbara Brenden

Barb Brenden, age 75, Clark, the widow of Dick Brenden, died in a Sioux Falls hospital on Sunday afternoon, November 10, 2019, after a lingering illness.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 15 from 4 – 6pm at the Furness Funeral Home in Clark.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, November 16 at 2pm in the Furness Funeral Home Chapel with visitation 1 hour prior. The Reverend Mindy Ehrke is officiating. Burial will be private.

She was born Barbara Jean Greenhagen on December 5, 1943, at Chamberlain, the daughter of Melvin F. and Shirley (Wold) Greenhagen.  Barb attended school at Chamberlain, graduating in 1961.

On April 29, 1962, she was united in marriage to Dick Dale Brenden at Chamberlain.  The couple moved to Clark and were blessed with 4 children, Melvin, Valerie, David, and Carrie Jo. Dick died on April 6, 2007.

Barb owned and operated a beauty salon in Clark for some 32 years.  She then became employed by the State of South Dakota, Board of Cosmetology as a State Inspector, a position she had for the next 7 years.  She had continued making Clark her home until her death.

In her free moments, Barb enjoyed playing solitaire, crocheting and embroidering, working word search puzzles, and golfing. She also had a daily ritual of watching her favorite television shows, Days of Our Lives, The Young and the Restless, and when it was on, The Voice.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Dick, daughter, Valerie Voelsch, granddaughter, Kali Jo Waege, a grandson, Zachary Voelsch, and siblings, Jerry and Melvin Greenhagen.

Survivors include her children, Melvin of Clark, David of Indio, CA, Carrie Jo (Matthew) Madsen of Lehigh Acres, FL; grandchildren, Matt, Emily, Savannah, Alex, Jordan, Makayla, Chelsea, Riley, Nick, and Kayla and 4 great-grandchildren, Everitt, Jordan, Jayden, and Juliana. Barb also leaves a very special friend, Sara Jo (Wheeler) Lamb.

She also leaves siblings, Linda Hillyard, Shirley Mae Greenhagen, Bill (Linda) Greenhagen and a sister-in-law, Betty Greenhagen.
