Mr. Arnold W. Larson, age 89, Watertown, formerly of Garden City, died in the Jenkins Living Center at Watertown, early this morning, Sunday, September 3, 2006. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2006 at 2PM in the United Methodist Church at Garden City with the Reverend Warren Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden City Cemetery. Music will be presented by Marvine Obermeier as organist with Wendy Christman and Marvine Obermeier singing "One Day At A Time" and "Precious Lord Take My Hand". Casketbearers will be Wayne Fletcher, Norman Alexander, Delmer Stern, Craig Rasmusson, Bill French and Bob Gergen. Visitation will be held 2 hours preceding services in the Church at Garden City. He was born at Clark, SD on December 17, 1916, the son of Clifford and Ella (Olson) Larson. He grew to adulthood in the Clark community attending Clark School. He was drafted into the US Army during WWII and was medically discharged a short time later due to a hearing deficiency. On August 30, 1942 he was united in marriage to Harriet Young Rost. The couple lived in Garden City while she served as postmaster. Arnold, 'Lars' as many knew him, began a career in butchering at a very young age. He worked in Clark for various locker businesses' including Bennett Meat Market and Vernon Beller Frosted Locker. He also worked for Modern Lockers in Bradley. Mrs. Larson died on July 17, 2004. Being a New York Yankee fan and a dog lover, were a couple of his extra pleasures in life. He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Garden City and the Garden City American Legion. Grateful for having shared in his life is a son, Dale Rost and wife Marcella of Watertown and a sister, Joyce Krueger of Sioux Falls; 3 grandchildren, Julie Mandery and husband Ted, Greg Rost and Patty Engels and husband David; 5 great-grandchildren, Chard Mandery and wife Tricia, Brad Mandery, Aaron Rost and wife Stacey, Justin Rose and Jacklyn Engels and 2 great-great grandchildren, Zoey Mandery and Brandon Rost. Preceding him in death were his parents, a daughter, Vicky Larson in 1998, a brother, Earl Larson and a sister, Bernice Konrady.
