Anna "Ann" M. Scofield, age 82, Clark, died peacefully with family at her side on Tuesday morning, June 28, 2016 in the Prairie Lakes Hospital at Watertown after suffering an apparent massive stroke on Monday night at her residence.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 5PM in the Furness Funeral Home Chapel at Clark with Pastor Mark Tracy officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held beginning at 4PM on Saturday in the chapel.
She was born Anna May Rueter on July 5, 1933 at Cresbard, SD, the daughter of Karl and Gertrude (Wolfheim) Rueter. In 1950 she graduated from Yankton High School. Ann then attended Northern State University for a year. She also attended Yankton College.
In the late 1950's she married Earl Scofield. She and her children lived in Omaha for a short time, later they moved to Arizona where she worked at a Doctor's office. She then began her employment with the Social Security Administration, a career that lasted over 20 years. They also lived in California and in 1972, they moved to Huron and other South Dakota communities including Pierre. After her retirement, she moved to Clark to be near her daughter and family, Lynn, in the early 1990's. While living in Clark, Ann worked at Roetell Senior Living Center. She had lived in the Colonial Apartments until becoming a resident of the Fay Wookey Memorial Living Center until the time of her death.
In her free moments, she enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, and watching television, especially professional basketball, being an avid fan of the Phoenix Suns, and baseball, liking the Cubs and the Twins.
Preceding her in death were her parents, a son in infancy, and a brother-in-law, George Ryan.
Survivors include her children, Karla (Marty) Neuman of Aberdeen, Mike (Amy) Scofield of DeSmet, Lynn (Reed) McGraw of Clark and Jim (Crickett) Scofield of Watertown, 9 grandchildren, David, Kaitlyn, Courtney, Sara, Melissa (Casey), Stephanie (James), Samantha (Neil), Jeffrey (fiancé Hailey), and Savanna, 7 great-grandchildren, Waylan, Westen, Kayla, Brielle, Grace, Abbie, and Erick. She also leaves sisters, Muriel Ryan of Pierre, and Gladys Smith of Virginia Beach, VA.
