In 1934, Alvera won the first Ladies Corn Husking Crown by picking 124 perfectly clean ears of corn in just 10 minutes. Alvera was also very proud of the fact that she had kept a daily diary for over 70 years, settling many conversations by looking up what she had written in her book. In 1998 she moved to Clark and became a resident of the Fay Wookey Memorial Assisted Living Center where she had an apartment until March of 2006. She moved into the care center in April of this year.
